Taking Care of the Details

September 21st, 2007 by Holly

bubbys-error-page.jpgOf course, when you build a site for a client, it’s top priority to get the big stuff right. The look and the functionality have to be dead on. It’s critical that a client’s site works to enhance their brand and become a logical extension of the product or services that they sell. If users find a site difficult to navigate and use, it can leave a lasting impression in the mind of the user about the quality and professionalism of your company. But just as important as it is to get the big stuff right, it is as equally important to get the details correct. Paying attention to the details makes the users experience more holistic. When the details are in order at every turn, a user will find a site reinforces the core values of the company. For our latest site, Bubby’s Pie Co., this meant crafting a number of special icons, special notices, and of all things error pages.

Often error pages aren’t even an after thought in the design process but error pages are another piece of the total user experience. Creating Bubby’s Pie Co. error pages was fun because we got an opportunity to be a little cheeky and project the kind of 10 year old precociousness Bubby’s Pie Co. has a reputation for. How many restaurants mantra is, “As good as your Bubby’s . . . If she only knew how to cook!”. For nearly 15 years Bubby’s has taken their whip-smart attitude and used it, to make Bubby’s a landmark destination for the famous and almost famous in a New York neighborhood renowned four it’s for star dining.

For Bubby’s, I created custom error pages that load randomly whenever a user finds themselves off track.
